Bamboo Flooring
When looking for a new wooden floor, bamboo flooring makes an excellent choice. Hardwearing, attractive and made from a quickly renewable source, there's no reason not to give it a look. Bamboo flooring comes in a selection of styles. Not, as it might sound, in rows of bamboo sticks, but the thick stems are cut into smooth planks, laid either horizontally or vertically, for a thick or thin plank pattern, showing a beautiful grained texture.
Natural colored bamboo is pale. It can also be smoked, or carbonized, to give it a lovely coffee color. The wood can be finished in either a matt or satin laminate, making the design possibilities as wide as any other choice of flooring. Bamboo flooring is extremely hardwearing, making it ideal for a much used floor. It's durability is comparable to other hard woods, but is more environmentally friendly since bamboo is a much quicker growing plant than trees.
Bamboo can grow in as little as three to six years, so you can buy your new floor safe in the knowledge no forests are being destroyed to enhance your home! Hard wearing as it is, your bamboo floor will only keep it's beautiful appearance it you take care of it. Keep high heels off it and protect it from being scraped with chair legs by using felt pads. Don't place a rubber backed rug over the floor or you risk discoloration. Be sure to follow manufacturer guidelines for cleaning products, and clear up spills immediately to prevent them seeping into the wood.
The price of bamboo flooring is very reasonable, but the finish and warranty purchased will make a difference. Floors can be purchased with anything from zero to lifetime warranty. As a very rough guide, expect to pay around $2 - $10 per square foot. Shop around, check out the many online retailers to compare prices before you visit local stores to make sure you get the best deal.
